The Lyon Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Institute
This is a Institute dedicated to cancers and leukemia of child.
The Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Institute is a specialized hospital created and managed jointly by the Lyon Hospices Civils, a public health establishment, and the Centre Léon Bérard, a Non-profit private health care facilities of public interest (ESPIC).
It provides care for children and adolescents with cancers (solid tumours and hemopathies) and benign hematology. The merging of skills and patients (200 new patients /year) gives the IHOPE the dimension requested for reference centres of pediatric cancers.
A word from the Director
Ten Years Already
The hematology and oncology Institute born in February 2008, provides children and adolescents of Lyon and the region a large range of diagnosis and therapeutic expertise but also a global management (pain, psychology, school, art…) in the field of cancers or hematology or immunology diseases.
Beyond cares, like all institutions, the IHOPE has a local, regional and national teaching role and of course is involved in the European research thanks to the medical experts of the Institution.
The strong will of these two institutions brings together national and European expertise which benefit each day to the children managed in the Institute. Three overarching values seemed essential: welcome, respect and research for children and adolescents and their family to go through the ordeal of these rare and serious pathologies the best way.
Prof Yves Bertrand, Manager of the IHOPE, pediatric hematologist, and Dr Christophe Bergeron, pediatric oncologist.
